Kia ora (welcome)

Back to Nature Tours NZ Ltd is a small company and has been successfully run since 1991. We are based in Dunedin and run a daily wildlife trip of the Otago Peninsula that we have tweaked to perfection over the years. We now visit Larnarch Castle and it's wonderful native gardens. We realised that a lot of our clients wanted to visit the castle (the only one in NZ) and see the wildlife on the peninsula so we have responded to that this year. We are now proud to offer the most comprehensive tour of the Otago Peninsula at a reasonable cost.

Back to Nature Tours also designs custom made tours for individuals, couples or groups. These tours are based on your interests and our secrets. We take care of things you don't want to or don't know how to. We provide on-line support before and during your holiday and we hope to hear from you afterwards too. These tours can be guided or self-driven and arranged to any budget. Our contacts will get you the best deals - saving you time and money. Our South Island tours will take you 'Back to Nature'.

Introducing Chris (Scotty) Roberts, Operations Manager and Head Guide

Well, I was born in Wellington, New Zealand, raised in New Orleans,USA and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. I've been living in New Zealand for the last 8 years throughout the South Island. I live here because of the people, mountains and the massive brown trout that rise in the gin clear rivers. I'm a naturalist and enjoy observing nature and enhancing my connection to it. At university I studied sociology but as Charlie Douglas (early Scottish explorer/bushman of NZ's west coast) once said, 'Fools think that Knowledge can only be got from books & men.'

I've been working in front line tourism in New Zealand and to a lesser extent Scotland for the last decade. I've worked for many of the major tourism companies in the South Island including;

  • Franz Josef Glacier Guides
  • Real Journeys
  • Ultimate Hikes
  • NZ Ski.com
  • Loch Lomond Leisure Scotland

Since moving back to New Zealand I have studied the unique history (maori/european) flora & fauna and wildlife. I have been involved in conservation projects in the past and will be in the future. I look forward to introducing you to Dunedin and Waka-o-Aoraki (the South Island).

Introducing Nigel Levick.

I arrived in New Zealand in 1965 at the age of 18 having been born in Buxton, Derbyshire, England. I have lived in Dunedin for the past 42 years. Originally I worked in construction as a Quantity Surveyor and Project Manager enabling me to work throughout the country. Dunedin and its environs are hard to beat and my family and I wouldn't live anywhere else.

For the past 17 years I have been involved extensively in tourism, owning and operating Manor House Backpackers and one of the original directors of Back to Nature Tours. My wife Rosalind and I have travelled extensively enjoying the hospitality in many different countries. We have made friends from all over the world that have visited us here in Dunedin and enjoyed its natural beauty.
